At Mystic Man Tours, we’re fortunate to operate from Soufrière, where the deep waters of the Caribbean Sea lie just minutes from shore. Unlike many destinations that require long journeys offshore, Saint Lucia’s unique underwater topography allows whales and dolphins to be found surprisingly close to land, giving you more time searching for wildlife and less time travelling.

Our marine wildlife excursions take you along the spectacular southwest coast of Saint Lucia, with most sightings occurring in the waters surrounding the UNESCO-listed Pitons and the picturesque fishing village of Canaries. Our search typically begins just a quarter of a mile from the coastline before extending several miles offshore into the rich waters where these magnificent marine mammals are most often encountered.

Dolphins are regular visitors to these waters and are often the stars of the tour. Curious, playful and incredibly agile, they frequently ride the bow waves, leap clear of the water and delight guests of all ages with their natural acrobatics. The species most commonly encountered include Spinner Dolphins, famous for their spectacular aerial spins, Pantropical Spotted Dolphins, and the energetic Fraser’s Dolphins, which often travel in large social pods.

The waters off Saint Lucia are also home to some of the ocean’s most remarkable giants. Sightings regularly include Sperm Whales, the largest toothed predators on Earth, as well as Short-finned Pilot Whales and the elusive Dwarf Sperm Whale. Every encounter is unique, whether it’s witnessing the unmistakable blow of a whale on the horizon, watching a pod surface together in perfect rhythm or listening to the sound of a whale taking a powerful breath before disappearing beneath the surface once again.

As these are completely wild animals living in their natural environment, no responsible operator can ever guarantee a sighting. However, with more than 25 years of local experience, our knowledgeable captains understand the seasonal movements and feeding areas of Saint Lucia’s resident marine mammals. Working together with other experienced captains around the island and using real-time sightings, we consistently achieve an exceptional success rate, with approximately 90% of our excursions encountering dolphins and around 80% resulting in whale sightings.
